Output of an agglomerating litter

When you buy a cat litter, you have no clear how it can be last and how a litter is more convenience than another one. We, that are litter producer, know very well that not all the litters are equal and not all have the same lasting. In the field of agglomerating litter, there is a metre enable to say exactly how is the output of agglomerating product, i.e. how grammes of litter is used and taken away each time the cat make an "x" quantity of urine. This results - called output - is say in percentage and is the ratio between the grams of water flowed (that simulate the cat urine) and the grams of litter agglomerated.

How calculate the output

How count the output is very simple and can be made also in one's house from each person that want to test the quality of his litter. We point out that this count can be made only on agglomerating type litter. The equipment necessary is a cooking balance enable to weight at almost 5 grs., a measure. Fill the measure with 50 mls. of water, and flow very slowly into the litter with a steady hand. Take the ball agglomerated (if litter is good, the agglomerate should be compact) and weight it by the balance. The weight read includes the flowed water and so to have the net weight of litter used, it is necessary to make a substraction

Weight of used litter = Ball weight - Water weight (50 grs.)

The output is the ratio between the weight of absobed liquid and one of used litter

Output = Water weight (50 grs.) / Agglomerated litter weight

Then, to obtain the output in percentage, it is necessary to multiply the output per 100.

% Output = Output x 100

Now it is intuitable that less quantity of litter is used, more a product sacks last, even if it absorbs the same liquid quantity.

We do a real example. If an agglomerating litter sack from 5 kgs. has an output of 50%, it means that it absobs a liquid quantity as 50% of its weight and so 2,5 kgs. of urine.

A sacks of same weight (5kgs.), but with an output of 25%, can absorb only 1,25 kgs of urine. So that in this case for our cat toilette it will be necessary 2 sacks of litter with output 25%, against only one sacks of litter with output 50%.

It is now easy to understand that the output is an important metre saying exactly the potentiality and convenience of an agglomerating litter.

As you have seen, this meter don't consider the solid excrements as they have a minor incidence on litter use.
